Lane Jennings: Staying Consistent

What brought you to CrossFit?

A desire to work out and be accountable to the group. I was a pretty good athlete as a child. I stayed active and worked out often. I even used to go to the regular gym everyday and I would talk to my friend Jon about eventually joining CrossFit one day, but I was too afraid due to a history of back injuries! However, once I started I finally realized that CrossFit is making my back stronger and healthier!

Lane3What was your first impression? How has that changed?

Great first impression, and it continues to satisfy me in every way! I was even able to do my OnRamp classes with my friend Freddy which made the first impression a little less intimidating, and since the first class I have been hooked! I couldn’t be happier with the people I workout with, the coaches, the facility, the location, the equipment, the music, the variety in each of our workouts, and the options I have to attend various classes throughout the day. Each class has something different to offer! Even though the workout is the same for each class all day, the personalities differ from class to class and that always makes for an exciting workout!

What’s your biggest accomplishment so far?

Staying consistent!  I’m not concerned about lifting the heaviest possible weight, but I am concerned about coming to the gym and working out with the group as much as I possibly can each week. And if I happen to miss the gym notices! I will get calls and texts from my friends and even the coaches, just to check on me and make sure I’m okay. The “high” that I get from CrossFit is fantabulous! I even have to force myself to take a day off:)

What are you working on now?

Lane1Technique, technique, technique! I believe that the proper technique can keep me healthy and give me the best opportunity to enjoy all that Crossfit has to offer. Coming into CrossFit with my  history of a back problem, I always make sure to take it easy and learn what I’m doing before adding any weight. I always make sure to get my stretching and mobility in as well!

What’s your favorite CrossFit Port Orange story?

My favorite CrossFit Port Orange story is probably my friend Deanna. In the beginning, she was sooooo scared of injuring her back, because she also has a history of back issues. Now she’s kicking ass, adding weight, and doing things she never imagined possible! Oh and she says that her back is as strong as it’s ever been! Lane2

Favorite and least favorite Workout and/or movement.

This is a difficult question to answer because I love all of the workouts! I get excited when they post the night before and it gets me ready for the next day!

However, there are certain things that I don’t do. I don’t do stones or tires, mainly because of my back. Being so tall and having the back history I don’t like getting that low to the ground. Some other exercises I don’t do include handstand push-ups and muscle ups, but that’s only because I just don’t have the technique down yet.
